If you have chicken pox, 1, 2, 3
Keep those spots away from me!
    - by Ron Chronister and friends, Roberts Elementary School, Fair Oaks, CA
  4. Put on a Play or Puppet Show
It is easy to adapt as a script. Get your friends together and decide who will play which characters in the book: Mom, Dad, Brother, Goldie, Mama Bear, Henny Penny, Jack (He has no lines, so even little brother or sister can play him!), Bo Peep, Doc, and Little Red. Each of you can play two or three characters if you want. Have one person be the narrator who reads all the sentences that are not in “quotation marks” and you’re all set!
  5. Read a book!

Egypt, Can You Dig It? – The Royal Builders Rap by Erin Dealey
    (5 Builders—at least–enter to a rap beat–and bow to Imhotep, Royal Builder)
Builder 1: Yo, wassup, boss? You got somethin’ to build?
Imhotep: Can you get a thousand workers?
Builder 1: Heck yeah. We will.
Builder 2: We can build a mastaba, all low and flat.
    Imhotep:
    Yeah, that’s just the problem.
    Zoser doesn’t want that.
Yo, he wants-to-make-a splash up-in-heaven, see?
    So we gotta-build-a temple
and then, we’re home free. (Unscrolls his design)
    Builders: Home free? Home free?
    –Boss, we like that sound.
But we’ve never built a chamber that high above ground.
    Imhotep:
    It’s a step pyramid. Zoser’s steppin’ out.
Two hundred feet tall, lemme hear you shout.
With a burial chamber 80 feet underground
And a mile long wall reachin’ all around.
    Builder 3: A mile you say? That’s a hecka-long wall.
And what’s with all the doors? 14, y’all.
Builder 4: Don’t ya see, those doors don’t lead anywhere.
It’s all about protecting the Pharaoh in there.
Said, 14 doors– but only one’s for real.
No one’s gonna find him. See? That’s the deal.
Builder 5: Say what about the tunnels?
    Builders & Imhotep: The tunnels?
Builders 5: (pointing to the design) The tunnels.
    Check out all the tunnels.
    Imhotep: Yeah, that’s the maze.
Builder 5: We gotta dig the tunnels?
    Builders & Imhotep: The tunnels?
Builder 5: (pointing to the design) The tunnels!
Dude, diggin’ all those tunnels’ gonna take us days!
Imhotep: (getting the others to join in)
    It’s a step pyramid. Zoser’s steppin’ out.
Two hundred feet tall, lemme hear you shout.
With a burial chamber 80 feet underground
And a mile long wall reachin’ all around.

(They exit, repeating the last line
And a mile long wall reachin’ all around.
    until all are out. )

Meet Sammi the Cheer-Reader. She has a book report to finish, but she likes to procrastinate. See if you can spot Sammi at Erin’s Author Visits and events. Sammi is hoping to interview a few of her favorite authors. Maybe they’ll write her report for her…
